Or it means there are people who have different opinions than you do. Nice to style your opinions as the "non-sheep" indicator, but unlikely to be true.

That said, it's a no from me. I enjoy ITAOTS and OAI, but neither of the albums is so amazing as to be worth induction to a Hall of Fame.

On who? Funnily enough folk music has been self sustainable on both sides of the Atlantic before and since NMH. Now i know they have built up a big fanbase over the last few years and that is to be applauded if not utterly perplexing. However this is a hall of fame thread and I have rarely heard this bands name being held up as a shining beacon of influence and/or innovation. John Martyn doe folk 100X better IMO but I would never make a case for him as he is just damn good at what he does and has never set the world on fire.

This is what many members are trying to say. It's not merely the fact that they do or dont like their music. It's a case of sustained brilliance, innovation or influence. Hell, The Residents beat many here hands down for that.

P.I.L did'nt make it in. Even though they are influential and virtually created a whole sub genre, Urban did'nt bleat when they did'nt get in. I actually voted no for them too as I'm not a huge fan. NMH may be very good at what they do. Unfortunately what they do is not exactly what set's the musical world on fire.

People are going to defend bands that they feel should be in, so you can't fault them for that... not all of us have the level-headedness of Urban. I'd bet you would call people out if Pink Floyd was in danger of not making it.

Also, people are way too image conscious when it comes to NMH.

I wasn't really trying to imply that.

What I mean is nobody would have considered them hall of fame material had that one album had not suddenly been hyped through the stratosphere a couple of years ago.

Hell I bet if I dug out an old Birdland album & got a bunch of indie websites to hype them to oblivion too within months someone would be trying to put them in here.

Not a chance. I know through being here a while that people have different tastes and that is exactly why you have'nt seen a nomination from myself for Pink Floyd's inclusion. There has been tons of negative comments about the floyd on MB in my time but why should it bother me? I will always love them no matter what anybody say's and I can handle that easily. If I am the only person left to profess my love for Floyd then so be it.

I personally think that the ultimate love for a band is to have the balls to proclaim your liking even in the face of adversity.

When facts are wrong I will jump down peoples throats but opinions..that's all they are. It's a poll and if they get in then you are vindicated. If they don't get in then maybe we are all wrong lol

NMH is losing in the poll... wouldn't you consider that to be adversity?

Only by three, this hasn't turned into the YES debacle yet.

No it's a triumph!Seriously I respect people who love what they listen to but also accept a counter argument or hold their hands up and say feck it. They don't like them and that's that. Unfortunately on MB that rarely happens anymore. I like liking the artists that I do and I will ram them down your throats at every opportunity that I can. However if members don't like my choices then bollocks to you. It is getting to the stage where you cannot have a conflicting opinion anymore and that is utterly disheartening.

I don't like NMH at all. Get over it and have the balls to rejoice in that.

Yes, but you feel that way because you dislike it. "Overhyped" always translates to "I don't like it, but lots of people say it is great."

I, personally, think PIL is massively overrated from a musical perspective, but I don't call those who like them "sheep." I understand that many people legitimately think PIL was great and groundbreaking musically, and I respect that even if I thoroughly disagree. By the same token, I believe that ITAOTS is hyped because many people legitimately like it.

Also, "a couple of years ago?" I've been hearing about NMH and ITAOTS as an indie classic for the better part of a decade now. I don't agree, but the hype definitely didn't start a couple of years ago.
