It's 16 here, but the funny thing is that if you're over 18 and you have consensual sex with a 16 year old, it's still statutory rape. So there's still a fine line.

Howard the Duck 08-22-2012 07:24 AM

no fine line

anybody under 18 who has sex with someone older, it's statutory rape

if they're both under 18, they go for counselling

FETCHER. 08-22-2012 07:44 AM

Most people I know lost their virginity at around 14-15. I have heard of younger though. Nothing happens either. I've known some 15yr olds (when I was 15) that were sleeping with older people around 18.

Rjinn 08-22-2012 07:57 AM

Well I doubt the younger crew having consensual sex would go raving to the police about it.

Get him in the balls so that he may possibly never be able to have children who might work at UPS in the future and help that ****ty company thrive.

It does if she gets him hard first.

First week of having a swimming pool went great, freezing cold though but we've had a couple of very immature and obscene pool parties already.
Sadly the dimensions of the pool mean that it is not feasible to attempt to dive in from the sides, since the pool basically goes with the topography of the field it covers, so the deepest point is the geometric centre.
Great pool though.

Just so you know, I'm Scottish, I'm 17, I'm ginger and I do boxing
(not very much though - spent far more time on judo although it's virtually useless).

I'm posting this pretty late, as this pertains to yesterday, but I completely forgot about it and I have no idea how I let that happen.

So I'm taking this class, "intro to Pro-Tools" as sort of a special interest class to fill up my credit hours, and when I set foot in the soundproof room yesterday, I was greeted by 10 fully stocked, large Mac workstations, each with an 8 channel midi control surface, an Oxygen 25 midi keyboard, mouse and keyboard, and a pair of high-dollar Sony headphones.

Then... the instructor opens another door, and there's a control room with a 48 channel mixer, same midi control surface as the smaller ones, high-quality IOs, guitars, mics, and another door leading to a drum room, with a brand new drum set, all miked with good mics... AND GENELEC SPEAKERS IN THE CONTROL ROOM. Genelec. Yes. And some other speakers for A/B... but I don't give a f*ck about those... Genelec.

I will take pictures next Tuesday when I get to attend.
So apparently our whole class is just about learning Pro Tools, doing a few projects, and using the equipment.

I win. Finally. I win.
I think I might try to get in good with the instructor so I can go there when I'm no longer taking classes, and use their stuff. Plan activated.

That sounds so amazing brother. Do you have your own personal copy of Pro-Tools, or is it just installed on the computers there? I'd love to own a copy, can't afford it though. I've been looking for some good software to make my album, but haven't had any luck thus far.

I don't have a copy. I primarily use Sonar, and have been using it for years, so it's going to be really hard to get used to Pro Tools. I got a chance during the class to mess around and explore in Pro Tools, and I know I'm going to have a hard time learning the new workflow. It might be a good idea for me acquire a copy of PT for my home PC to get more acquainted with it. If there's one thing that really drags me down creatively, it's having to search for how to do something in a music program. It took me a couple years to really learn the ins and outs of Sonar, and Sonar is far better in terms of workflow, customization, and intuitiveness... so I think my biggest hurdle is going to be learning the unintuitive nature of Pro Tools early enough to still use it to capacity before the class is over...

Well, I might lose staying at this apartment soon. My roommate might lose her job and there is no way we can come up with the rent. Finding another job has to happen real soon otherwise I'll have nowhere to go and I don't fancy being left on the streets again. So I'll have to hammer job search as hard as I can. I've tried a hell of a lot of bars everywhere for a while now but still no luck. Employment is terrible in Sydney. I have no idea what I'm supposed to do when the time comes...

:/

Don't you have unemployment benefit and your share of the rent paid, if you can't find a job?

Rjinn 08-23-2012 11:48 AM

Unemployment benefits are minuscule compared to rent prices, and expenses in Sydney. Temporary accommodation is hard to come by since there aren't many places with vacancies. We have rent assistance but it doesn't cover the whole rent, only a third and by all of that I'm still hanging on by a thread.

Thanks Blar that's nice of you.

Plankton 08-23-2012 12:19 PM

This morning, I was in the drive through lane at McD's and when I pulled up to pay the employee said that the lady in front of me payed my bill. I was stunned. Good thing I didn't order for the whole office.

So Plankton gets his breakfast paid for by some lady, and now you want him to pay it forward by purchasing your next car?

There's only the slight issue of not being able to see through the windshield. Other than that it looks like a great deal!

Family is not in the picture. Friends, I doubt it. I still have time to explore, though already beginning to be over stressed about it.

FETCHER. 08-23-2012 02:02 PM

I forgot I had a scope down my throat this morning (jokes?) it was the most horrible experience of my life, it was like a ****ing cable. I just remember being heavily sedated and them pulling it out, I think I was being sick or boaking but I think it's good news, no stomach ulcer.

Freebase Dali 08-23-2012 03:19 PM

So, the law firm I sent my resume' to has emailed me asking me to fill out an information form before they further consider me for employment in their I.T. department. I filled it out, of course, with the caveat that I'm teaching a class for 2 hours, 3 times a week.
I'm not sure what they're going to do with that, should they want to hire me, but it's not out of the realm of possibility that they would be ok with me being absent for 2 hours 3 times a week until the semester is over. If they call me, then that would be nice, as I can just drop the regular classes I'm taking, still get paid for teaching the one I teach, and simultaneously have a full time job as well that will also be there when I finish the semester.
Here's to hoping!

I understand that the social security system in some places is quite different to the UK version. I imagine you are getting stressed, how long have you got to find a job and is it definite that your flatmate will lose their job?

[MERIT] 08-23-2012 06:18 PM

Finally got a call back for an interview tomorrow. Hoping it's fruitful.

Janszoon 08-23-2012 09:57 PM

My wife found a dead kitten in our driveway today, an adorable little gray and white guy. When I came home tonight after a particularly shitty day of work, I had to figure out what to do about it. I couldn't bring myself to simply put him in the trash so ended up burying him in an empty lot next to us with what I can only assume were his family standing around meowing at me. I'll be honest, it was really heartbreaking. :(
