01) Original Mix : What a tune! I haven't heard from Uriel in quite some time and the last time I did he was making trance. It seems we're in a period where people aren't afraid to experiment and just kinda do their own thing. Back in the day of commercial trance everyone had their own style.. but still were pretty similar. Nowadays though Ferry Corsten has been producing electro and electro trance, Armin van Buuren has been making pop-esque vocal trance and house, Paul van Dyk has been making all kinds of stuff from house to pure trance, and Tiesto has gone way into house territory. I digress. This tune is both beautiful and energetic. It has a lot of movement and melodies and yet is progressive. I hardly ever see all 3 of those things in one song.. and it's a breath of fresh air. Thanks to this current trend of experimentation. All around a great track : 8/10

02) Domased Electronica Remix : Although it is far from the original.. it still maintains the same feeling. The main difference being that this one is progressive house.. and not breaks. Since it is, it's much more suitable for lounging and probably more accessible to most people. Now this could be good or bad depending on your views, but I'm indifferent. Since it's just as good as the original and just a different style, I say go for it! I'm quite surprised I've never heard of this artist but I'll definitely keep my ears open for his stuff. 8/10

03) Retroid Remix : A remix from the guy who owns the label! Ironically it's my least liked version out of all of them. It's like the original but the melody is just too.. energetic. The original managed to have energy but still had a general feeling of being smooth, or maybe just more dynamic. I'll stick to the other versions. 6/10

This is a very rare occurence.. I have too MUCH music to review! Oh well.. I'll narrow it down to three.

Electro House:

Wolfang Gartner - Firepower
Label : Kindergarten Recordings
Release : August 18th, 2009
Versions : Original

There's also a track released with this one called Latin Fever.. but it's not for me. It's minimal tech/tribal house and I just can't listen to stuff like that. It's too plain for my liking. Check it out though, you may like it. As for THIS track.. just wow. An electro house song for someone with the attention span of a hyperactive 3 year old with a rampant refusal to take ritalin. It's so fantastic. It's combining funk, electro/electro house, with maybe some disco, and even a bit of classical. When I first heard it I couldn't stay still if I tried. It's just such an intense song changing and changing and changing. From basslines that sound funk oriented to really distorted melodies out of classical music, it's just so completely different from the conventional style of club music. His last song Wolfgang's 5th Symphony was styled in the same way.. but just a lot less energetic and also way more classical influence so check that out if you like this

Progressive House:

Luigi Lusini - Imago E.P.
Label : The Clubbers

Imago : Absolutely gorgeous, lush, and chilled. The breakdown features an amazing flute melody and then comes out of nowhere with a really smooth and persistent melody that is quite prevalent in today's progressive house. Somehow it never gets old.. it reminds me of the beach and is just such a joy to listen to. It's a great song.. however the only real thing that differentiates it from other songs is the breakdown with the flute 8/10

Angor : I wasn't sure what this meant.. so I looked it up. As it turns out it means "a great anxiety, distress, or mental anguish". Quite a depressing sounding title.. yet it's quite a gorgeous tune! It does have a different sound from Imago in that it isn't as uplifting and does have a bit more aggression. It's definitely close to progressive tech house.. although it's more progressive. The percussion doesn't come in until around 2:00 and then there's also a 2:00 breakdown. Maybe it's just meant to balance out the slight aggression so that it doesn't come off sounding too different from the other songs. Overall.. a pretty good song but not to my liking because of it's excessively progressive nature. 6/10

Bahamut : Definitely my favorite track from the entire E.P. It has that sound that I love.. it's not too energetic you can just let it play and lounge to it. Not aggressive, not loud, not fast, not slow, it's just right in the middle. It also switches everything up with a bit of guitar and in the breakdown has a very electro-esque sounding synth that has quite a bit amount of emotion. Just an all around gorgeous tune. 9/10

Trance:

George Acosta feat. Truth - Someone (Vox Mix)
Label : Fektive Records
Release : August 24th, 2009
Other Versions : Dub Mix, Alternative Mix, Adrian Ivan Remix, Nurettin Colak Remix, Nurettin Colak Dub Remix

The general feeling of this song reminds me of the kinda stuff Markus Schulz produces. In an interview he said "..some trance is just too uplifting. So I want it a little darker.." and this song is just like that. It has the potential to be an insanely euphoric tune but George tones that down a bit and makes it a bit more well rounded. No one wants to listen to over the top, euphoric, and hair raising music all the time. The vocals from Truth are incredible as well and really make the song amazing. George also arbitrarily puts a stutter effect on them that sounds SO amazing. (If you like it as much as I do check out I'll Never Be The Same Again from Markus Schulz and Never Again from Robert Nickson). The whole tune just has this dark feeling with an underlying sense of something impending.. or just that general sound of eagerness or anxiousness. I can't see this song ever getting old soon, it's just so gorgeous on a subdued level. From an American producer nonetheless! I guess that's not as uncommon nowadays with DJ Eco, Redstar, Filo & Peri, Breakfast, Gabriel & Dresden, and Sean Tyas (although living in Sweden) all being quite prolific in the scene. Just an all around fantastic tune. 8+/10

Another track from Burial! It's been too long. I've been waiting for this release for quite awhile. Once again it is so amazingly smooth and downtempo with those altered vocals and haunting echo-like melodies. It's as ethereal as anything else I'd expect to come from him. It's beautiful and somehow dark like walking in a city at night time. You admire the lights and sounds but are suddenly startled by gunshots and screaming. An absolute beauty of a tune with simplicity and emotion walking you through.

Hardstyle:

Zany meets The Beholder - Do You Want Heavy?

Other Songs : The New God

The New God is rather forgettable and moreover; nu, so I won't review it. Do You Want Heavy on the other hand is in your face and aggressive just as Hardstyle SHOULD be. There's no cheese or uplifting melodies just immensely hard kicks (reminiscent of Hardstyle back in 2005-2007), loud and brash melodies, and fantastically over the top lyrics. "We don't give a ****! I have an announcement to make.. we've come here tonight to KICK YOUR ASS" It's perfect for working out, fighting, or playing on a peak hour Hardstyle set. This is what Hardstyle should be and to hear a song from such a prolific producer in this day and age of nu and pitched bass is quite inspiring.

Trance:

Ron van Den Beuken feat. Nicole Tyler - Faraway (Harry's Game)

Now to go from something so aggressive as Do You Want Heavy I will go to extremely beautiful and euphoric from the amazing Ron van den Beuken. This song is, in essence, a revamped version of Chicane's huge hit Saltwater. Luckily he didn't change it much he only seemed to make it MORE euphoric which is always welcome in epic trance. The original is a beautiful tune in its own respect but this is incredible as well. The gorgeous vocals and melodies together sound so full and lush it's almost like all one thing. He may have tripped up on some rather forgettable tunes but Mr. Van den Beuken makes up for it with this incredible song.

Hard Tech:

Phil York - Phil York - Love (On My Mind) [Kidd Kaos Remix]

Kidd Kaos has to be the most exciting artist in hard tech trance today. He incorporates heavy amounts of Techno, Hard Trance, and Hardstyle into one and the result? Hard punchy kicks, reverse bass, long buildups and breaks all leading to a huge payoff. This song in it's style is similar to Nu Religion in that it has all the things you could wish for in a hard tech trance song and more. The song starts out with a vocal that has a stutter effect and hard punchy kicks that set off the vocals in such a way that it almost creates a sense of euphoria from the amount of perfection. Of course I may be overstating it because I am of course a Kidd Kaos fanboy. Then it leads into a slightly more open vocal with reverse bass. It all culminates and then vanishes into a break that introduces a melody heavy with distortion. Kaos then tricks you into thinking the bass is about to be introduced that pulls the rug out from under you. Then when the melody is introduced he adds the reverse bass and makes the whole thing like an unstoppable thing of beauty.

That Burial tune seems even more stripped down from his Untrue album which is a great album. I hope his new album keeps this going and he alters his sound a little to keep things fresh. Have you heard the Burial/Four Tet 2 track split E.P? Damn fine. Takes a while to kick in but worth the wait.
