How long have you been a member? 1 year, 10 months.

What made you join a music forum? I had always lurked music forums simply to discover new music. General Music forums not only contain a far more diverse collection of tastes than any media source could assemble, they also provide you with more honest and reliable listener perspectives than any publication or magazine. That, coupled with ease of access and an interactive experience was all I needed.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? I had been active at another more focused music forum previously, and when the owners split up, the rest of the community followed and I left. When I came across this forum, the allure over the last was this broader range of styles and tastes, and the more dynamic community. I inadvertently got comfortable here and now it just feels like home.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? It depends on what I'm listening to, but regardless of what they are, the emotions are always positive in the sense that I enjoy having them, whether it's rage, sorrow or rapture. In that regard, music means an emotional reward.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The community. It constantly refreshes itself with new and interesting personalities who all have something to offer. And I enjoy doing what I can to help out.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum? Heh... video chat with a certain few members one night. I'll stop there.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
I've definitely lost a few musical biases, and gained some others.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
There can be some cliquey behavior at times, and a tendency for some people to treat their opinions like they're written in the margins of the ten commandments, but at the end of the day we're all just lesser parts of a greater whole and will remain beneficial.

What made you join a music forum? I wanted to talk to people about the music I listened to and since I couldn't find any people in my immediate surroundings who listened to what I listened to, I turned to the internet.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities? I googled music forums and this is the first thing that popped out. Later I tried another, bigger forum but I found it too large and impersonal. I wanted to be a part of a community and musicbanter seemed just the right size, small enough to enable more personal relationships with other members, large and active enough to keep it interesting.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you? A good piece of music can electrify me, make me move, give me goosebumps, whether it's upbeat or just sad, it stirs up emotions and the best of it feels like a little piece of heaven, a taste of the transcedental brought down by the musical Prometheuses to be shared with the untalented plebs. Life would be a much duller, darker place without it.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more? The people. Somehow, I feel it keeps attracting a wide and interesting critical mass of smart, funny and knowledgeable people, whom I can learn from and grow as a person.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here? Tons of new music, films, books, different perspectives, life experiences, bits and bobs about life in general, generally an enriching experience.

How long have you been a member?

A year and month

What made you join a music forum?

I was bored and the other forums I frequent aren't nearly as active as this one.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?

It's not centered around one genre.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
It makes me feel lots of things, I usually am always listening to music or humming or whistling or singing. It makes the world feel a little less lonely and makes me feel a little bit more able to articulate feelings.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
MB is riddled with very tight knit cliques and I've somehow become ingratiated into a little clique and it's all homey and ****.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
Having my tattoos described as fake by a fellow member was quite hilarious, and is still joked about today. I dunno, I've had several as I get into a lot of arguments. OH the Unveiling of Bandteacher1 was pretty great too, since I was in the middle of it and the first to be suspicious.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
Poisonous toadstools don't change their spots. Lots of people really like Radiohead.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
Some people take it too seriously when you insult their favorite band.

How long have you been a member?
Just over two years. By the way, each member has join date under their avatar!

What made you join a music forum?
I was in an exploratory phase where I was looking for new music. Also, I was feeling a bit lonely at the time (I was literally in a place with just a computer and no other people) and sought some human interaction Musicbanter showed up on a google search.

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
I joined a couple, but I only stayed on MB as the community seemed mature and I found a range of interesting threads that caught my interest immediately on joining. I also made friends here almost immediately.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Hard to describe! More than anything, I think I appreciate aesthetics in music. For example, I don't really turn to music as a way to vent feelings of anger or frustration. Neither do I do it as a way to lighten depressions or anything. The music I like is beautiful to my ears and sometimes, listening to it is just euphoric. I can really get lost in it.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
Aside from a general fondness for the site and the people that make up for the community, I feel like I can contribute to the site. I can add to it and make it better which is something I like. This does not specifically tie in with my current role as a moderator. For example, I created the Album Review Index before I was modded. Just feeling like I'm adding worth to the site is rewarding to me, whether my efforts are acknowledged or not.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
Immediately after joining up here, I became friends with Comus and Anteater and they shared with me so much interesting music. It was the first time I've ever gotten friends so quickly when joining a forum and it was a thoroughly refreshing experience.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
The experience from helping to moderate such a community of course and the comforting knowledge that communities with real warmth still exist on the internet. And a whole lot of musical influences of course!

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
So it's not all positive and praise, the one real beef I have is that I feel many people want to get their messages across with the absolute minimum amount of effort. For example, if there's a thread asking who's your favourite artist, someone might only write "Michael Jackson, 'nuff said" without elaborating at all on why they think he is the greatest. I feel like it's a toxic culture of lazyness which unfortunately affects a lot of forum users.

What made you join a music forum?
The love for music and the urge to get to know even more music than I do already

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
I like forums where there is a lot of social interaction. I also wanted to get to know people from abroad, just to get an idea what life is like outside the Netherlands. I must say it really broadened my horizon already.
First thing I noticed when comparing forums was that I liked the way the genres were organised here. And that people from different genres get along quite well. That's rare!
I also put rockforums.net in my favourites for later review. Never happened.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Music can really drag me out of the heaviest moments in my life. It really makes life worth living for me now and then. I even choose my friends based on their taste of music. It's not like I don't like them when I don't like their music, but I sure take it in consideration when forming my opinion on someone.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
Social interaction, variety of genres, respect for music and members from most members (not all, unfortunately), the fact that people come back regularly. I like to bond a bit. And that's very well possible, here. I immediately felt welcome.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
It's always hard to choose. I wouldn't so much want to describe an experience. I'd like to point out that there's some rather extraordinary members here. I can't help but be interested in the persons they are and they really make life (the world, society) a bit more interesting for me.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
These are tough questions. I can't really name one thing. I get the idea that some things I read here make me less shallow, make me think just a little bit longer about certain things. I think it's hard for you to make something out of the things I say here. I guess you might want to become a regular member to learn to understand this

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
Well I've been involved in many forums for many years and there's only two forums where I feel at home after a longer period of time. One of them is my own audio based forum. The other one is Musicbanter.
So there shouldn't be much change. Positive things you can read above .
Negative...
Well... I do think though that there's some members who are a bit harsh sometimes. Not just to me, but to a lot of people. And I wouldn't mind if the mods would say something about that every now and then. I know this is the internet, I know this is not real life, but it would be nice if some people realised that they are talking to real people. That's all, really.

How long have you been a member? Like 3 or 4 months

What made you join a music forum?
-I posted on another music forum for 9 years. The last few years the place basically fell apart and I left there in October and signed up here cause 1) I wanted to discuss music (mainly rap) with other people. and 2) I like being a part of an online community

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
-I just googled Music Forum and this was the first thing that came up. I signed up, posted for a few weeks, liked the size of the community, so I stayed.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Music inspires me a lot to make my own music. Music is pretty important to me, but it's probably less important to me than anyone else here. I don't listen to that much music, and I'm not really all that in expanding my tastes too much. But before I sit down to write my own, I always throw on some old rap tunes and it really opens up a lot of creative avenues for me lyrically.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
-Really it's just the community here. Good size, good mix of people. A lot of people here don't even like me, but I still come back. I like reading other opinions on stuff, hearing other peoples music, and making posts on different stuff.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
- I got banned for 2 weeks over Christmas because I photoshopped a clip-art picture of a hot dog in the same picture with a female member here. That was pretty interesting.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
-Nothing really. I mean, i posted on a music forum for like a decade before i signed up here. I already know how forums and online communities work. No discussion here has really changed anything about me. I don't take this forum nearly as serious as a lot of other members. All I really wanna take away from MB is some good discussion and some good laughs.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
-Being part of an online community is kinda a huge waste of time. You spend so many hours of your life talking to people you'll never meet. Makes me wonder if/how it has hampered my actual social life.

Going on four years.

What made you join a music forum?
I was originally one of those dickheads who comes here to promote my own music. And look at me now!

How come you choose MB as your music community over other music communities?
I think it was the first one I came across that seemed eclectic enough for my tastes. It seems like a lot of other music forums are more focused on particular genres.

How does Music make you feel and what it means to you?
Music makes me feel all kinds of ways, that's why I love it so much. Truly there's a sound for every mood.

Tell me what makes the MB online forum work for you and keep you coming back for more?
The people. I've been a member of several other forums over the years but this is the only one I've ever found where I felt like I was talking to people that I think I'd actually get along with in the real world.

Describe an interesting experience you had on the forum?
Being a mod I guess. This is the only place I've ever done that so it's kind of a unique experience for me.

What have you learned or what will you take away from your experiences here?
That people who say "I listen to everything except country and rap" probably also don't listen to shitloads of other music as well.

Let me know of any other points that you feel might interest me negative/positive about your experiences regarding being involved in a Music forum and its Members, now's your chance?
Well I guess learning about new music is the biggest thing.
