I'm comparing DB to The Police, which are considered new wave by a lot of people. I mean, it's that drony 80s sound which is basically new wave.

SUGGEST ME AN ALBUM - I'm probably not going to listen to it but I will if you bother me enough.

That is weird. Must admit, I didn't run the video. Let me see if I can get a single link...

OK this plays for me as Deacon Blue.
Anyway, miles better than Blur fmm.

Don't see the connection I have to admit. Police were nothing like Deacon Blue.

New Wave is basically artsy punk; it's a New York Underground sound. I thought doing a list of my favorite new wave albums.

But I was actually going to suggest something, but I see it's closed for the year.
So I have to remember to comeback & post lol

Title: So the Flies Don't Come
Artiste: Milo
Genre: Hip-hop
Familiarity: Zero
Recommended by: Deadchannel

Expectations: It's hip-hop and it's Bandcamp. I can't help but feel I won't be getting into this, but we'll see.

1. Rabblerouse: Good melody, decent rap, interesting wordplay. Synthy organ is cool at the end
2. Souvenir: Slide guitar? Cool. Second song in which he's mentioned mythology. The stop/start style of the music oddly enough doesn't annoy me, which it normally would.
3. Zen scientist: Nice slow laidback one here; lot of soul in this one
4. Re: animist: Interesting warped piano here; not sure if I like it though.
5. An encyclopaedia: Nice slow accompaniment, like his use of the encyclopaedia in the title. Sort of horns going on and off, bit like a slow siren or something.
6. Going no place: Dark vocal here is pretty cool. Reference to Renegade is neat. The TV show that is.
7. True nen: Harmonica? What is true nen anyway?
8. Napping under the echo tree: This has a really nice relaxing melody to it; the echoing drums are lovely and if that's violin (which it probably isn't) I dig it too.
9. @yomilo: It's alright but I'm not mad about this one.
10. Song about a raygunn (An ode to Driver): Very motown/soul with a much faster rap. But yeah I like this one.

End result: For a rapper/hip-hop artist this guy is pretty damn good and didn't annoy me as most of the ones I have listened to to date did. Liked the music and I like his style. Kind of pays his dues back to soul and blues.

So, Love or Hate? Oddly enough, this is another Love, which I had not expected.

Title: Soothsayer
Artiste: Buckethead
Genre: Rock
Taken from: Crime Slunk Scene
Familiarity: I've heard one or two albums
Suggested by: TechnicLePanther

Expectations: I reckon this could be good. What I've heard of his has impressed me. But how does the guy get to sleep? Look at all the albums he's released!

Lovely laidback start anyway, then it kicks into a screaming guitar, but retaining the melody, before it slips back to that more relaxed style. Kind of a warbling solo and it's back to the harder style; some fine shredding going on here. Hey! Is this why one of Plankton's songs is called “Son of Soothsayer”? Stunning stuff.

Conclusion: It seems this guy is incapable of disappointing. Another excellent performance from Buckethead.

So, Love or Hate? This would be a Love, for sure.

Possibility of looking into the album: 90%, though given the size of his discography it's probably unlikely.

Title: "Kenji"
Artiste: Fort Minor
Genre: Hip-hop
Taken from: Rising Tied
Familiarity: Zero
Suggested by: Ilistentoeverything

Expectations: I have no idea: this is the very first rec I've taken from ilistentoeverything, and with a username like that, he or she must have a pretty wide taste in music. I do see that it's a side project of one of the guys from Linkin Park, but never heard them so that doesn't mean much to me, although they don't tend to get too much love here. Also, ilistentoeverything doesn't know me like others do, so he/she may be recommending something that everyone else knows I would hate. Or love. Or not be interested in. So, no preconceptions and no idea what to expect, where are me boots? Let's jump on in!

Nice ringing guitar and then a spoken word story about a guy's father emigrating from Japan. The rap then begins, and it's not bad at all, taking up the story, and it's a powerful, emotional one about the Japanese Americans and how they were treated at the outbreak of World War II, what happened to them when they were finally released. Damn, that was good! Did not expect that. Tears in my eyes, guys. Tears in my eyes.

Conclusion: ****ing brilliant. So emotional, and somehow managing not to spit hatred but still accusation; you can tell the bitterness runs deep. The snippets of conversation with interned Japanese Americans really adds authenticity and humanity to the story.

So, Love or Hate? Well done, ilistentoeverything: your first rec, and your first True Love right off the bat!

Possibility of looking into the album: 90%

Glad you enjoyed Soothsayer. Pretty much my opinion of the song as well.

No man, the doors are firmly closed now. If you tell me what track I missed out though, provided it was submitted before the deadline, I'll add it retrospectively. Fair?

I think Buckethead may be in danger of having attained guitar godhood.
